The Disposal Services Agency is an agency of the Ministry of Defence set up to dispose of surplus equipment. It runs the largest disposal operation in the UK, organising the sale of both military equipment and commodities in use commercially, such as embassy furniture, government department office furniture, closed-down RAF-base vehicles and housing stock, ex-marine boats, ex-army tents, boots and ski equipment, medical and dental equipment, clothing, ship and aircraft spares, scrap metal and IT equipment. The DSA uses companies throughout the UK, each with their own specialist area, to dispose of stock. These companies also dispose of stock from a host of other, usually public sector, organisations varying from fire brigades and hospitals to health authorities and the police. Equipment from these companies can include kitchen equipment, fax machines, mobile radios, cars, generators, jewellery, telecommunications equipment, hazardous waste, oil, car batteries, industrial batteries and batteries in general, food trolleys, X-ray equipment, telephones, uniforms, dinghies, fishing nets, photocopiers and chair lifts.
